Flight Bans and Penalties for Disruptive Passengers on Planes

Modern, fast, and increasingly affordable, air travel has become a preferred mode of transportation for many. Nowadays, not only the upper class but also people with average incomes and laborers can travel by plane.

Despite the positive aspects, such as making air travel accessible to everyone, increasing economic trade activities, and promoting cultural exchanges between regions, the increased accessibility of air travel has also led to numerous cases of unruly behavior. To address this issue, airlines have implemented strict regulations. However, there are still many passengers who deliberately violate these rules, causing discomfort to others. Fortunately, airlines have been prompt in handling these situations.

  1. Assaulting a Woman on a Plane On March 3, 2017, during flight SU290 from Russia to Vietnam, Mr. N.D.V., born in 1959, residing in Vinh City, Nghe An, committed an act of violence against a female passenger on the same flight. For this behavior, the Northern Airport Authority decided to impose a fine of 7.5 million VND. However, Mr. V did not comply. On April 24, the Civil Aviation Authority issued an 18-month flight ban and a 6-month direct visual inspection for Mr. V. Realizing his wrongdoing, Mr. V paid the fine and requested leniency. Eventually, he received a 12-month flight ban.

  2. Causing a Disturbance on a Plane Similarly, Mrs. Tran Thi T, 44 years old (from Hoang Mai, Hanoi), faced severe penalties from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. She verbally abused the crew on a Vietjet Air flight due to a gate change. After receiving a 4 million VND fine, Mrs. T refused to pay, resulting in an additional 12-month flight ban starting from May 21.

  3. Forging Documents for Air Travel In Vietnam, cases of document forgery for air travel are rare. Recently, passenger Pham Minh L. was banned from air travel for 6 months (from April to October 2017) and required to undergo mandatory visual inspection for another 6 months. This was due to using an ID card under the name Nguyen Minh Hoang (issued by Bac Ninh Provincial Police on March 2, 2008) with his photo replaced to board flight VJ 181 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.

In most of these cases, passengers were not fully aware of the consequences of their actions, resulting in delayed fine payments. To minimize these negative situations, it is crucial to enhance the education and awareness of air travel regulations.
